The Government has finally decided to withdraw Guthi Bill after the continuous protest and criticism from the Newar community and also the members of the ruling party itself. The decision was publicized yesterday at a press meet.
The press meet featured Padma Kumari Aryal, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation. She announced that her ministry had decided to withdraw the controversial bill.
Respected Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli was supposed to speak on the Guthi Bill topic in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. But, the opposition, Nepali Congress obstructed the proceedings and Oli was not able to utter a single word. Later in the evening, Oli organized a press meet at the Prime Minister’s office where he openly told the media that he wholeheartedly supported Minister Aryal’s decision to withdraw the bill.
The withdrawal announcement was made just a day before the massive protest. However, since the Guthi Bill was not completely dismissed, the protestors will still take on the road today from 11 A.M. at Maitighar Mandala. People from different communities—not only the Newar community—are expected to join in the mass protest. If you want to save the Newari identity and culture, you can join in too.
