Nepal’s biggest shopping mall – Chhaya Center has been formally opened on the day Christmas, 25th December (Tuesday) at Kathmandu, the capital of the nation. The mall took five years to get completed with a total investment budget of NPR. 5 billion.
Chhaya Center is built in a tourist hotspot of Thamel which is spread over an area of 86,000 square feet. The mall stocks-in more than 200 retail stores representing various international and national (local) brands of goods. The Nepal’s biggest shopping mall, Chhaya Center is also a home to a five-star hotel –Aloft Kathmandu managed under the Marriott brand which is expected to open by March, 2019.
The 15-storey building, the five-star hotel, Aloft Kathmandu will be occupying the top 10 floors. The complex will also have a casino operated by a Chinese group. “This shopping complex with a five star hotel is expected to contribute to Nepal’s tourism promotion,” said Prithvi Bahadur Pande, chairman of the center, addressing the opening ceremony.
Dedicated to the chairman’s (Prithivi Bahadur Pande) mother Chhaya Devi Pande, wife of Sardar late Bhim Bahadur Pande, the center has all kinds of facilities including three multiplex theaters, travel agencies, seminar and reception hall and restaurants. Chhaya Center also has parking space for 300 cars and 300 motorbikes.
