One of the main costs to pinch you during the winter is heating bills. But, there are many other approaches to ease the cost:

  • Add an extra layer of clothing while lowering the temperature of the heater or air conditioner.
  • Make sure that your footwear has rubber soles. Rubber is a bad conductor of heat and keeps your feet warm.
  • Shut the doors and windows tightly that are not in use.
  • Leave the oven open after cooking, and let it fill up your kitchen without not just heat, but also the sweet aroma of food.
  • Stuff towels under and around your doors as much as possible. Who cares if it looks strange as long as it keeps the cold out?

Increase Humidity

You can leave a bowl full of hot water in your bedroom overnight. That would increase the humidity in the room, and humidity helps keep the heat 25 times more than dry air. By maintaining the proper humidity, we can keep up with winter without turning on the heater or the air conditioner. Also, this would prevent your skin from getting dry thus, cutting down on expensive cold creams and moisturizers.

Exercise More

Physical activities help in increasing the metabolic rate and accelerates body heat production. Exercise warms your body up a lot faster than anything else. Moreover, exercise is an excellent natural, healthy and inexpensive way of boosting your moods during the dreary winter months. And of course, for the lazy fellas, if you don’t want to exercise, at least try moving around as much as possible. This helps a lot to stay warm in winter without affecting your wallet.

Cut Alcohol

You might want to warm up with tea or coffee instead of alcohol. It’s only a myth that alcohol keeps you warm. Alcohol will warm you up a lot at first, but then it causes you to actually lose body heat. You’re better off with some warm tea, or maybe some hot chocolate drinks. Also, they are much cheaper than alcohols. Therefore, cut down the alcohol, and you will not only feel warmer but also have some spare changes in your wallet.

Take Cold Showers

This may seem unreasonable, but cold showers actually help in improving blood circulation, and that in turn helps to keep your body warm. A hot shower, causes the blood to move towards the surface of the skin, giving you a fleeting sense of warmth, while cold water makes the blood rush back to your vital organs. However, this might sound torturous for some people who cannot shower without hot water. Well, worry not, because you don’t have you jump right into the cold shower, you can gradually switch toward cold showers slowly. This will not torture your body, in fact, it will keep you warm and also, help cut down on the expenses of heating the water.

Whole grains are a great source of complex carbohydrates. They warm up the body due to their quick digestion. Grains are even easy to make and offer the warmth and comfort necessary to beat the winter blues.
