10 Best Series of all time to binge-watch during home quarantine

Lockdown surely has eased in Nepal, however, most of us are still home-quarantined as we’ve witnessed a massive rise in the Corona cases since last month. Staying home can be boring; people seem to be running out of ideas on how to entertain themselves further. Of course, if you work from home, then it’s no big deal. But if you have nothing to do, or just feeling lazy, then you will have to do something to entertain yourself. There are only a finite number of things that a human can do in a day. Daily chores, eating, cleaning up doesn’t take that long. So, what are we supposed to do with the remaining hours in this unforgiving lockdown, or let’s say during home quarantine? If you ask me, I have been watching a lot of series to pass my time. I had always watched some series pre-lockdown but I have especially favored watching series and dramas to pass the time during my home quarantine. Here are some of the best series of all time that I binged during my home-quarantine period.

10 Best Series of ALL TIME

1. Games of Thrones

Ok, I will admit that almost everyone has heard of GOT. It has been a revelation in the fantasy genre and it has also been the most pirated series of all time. For me, starts off a little slow but if you give it a little time, it escalates so quickly. It has the perfect balance between gore, violence, romance, conspiracy, politics, and dragons! Based on the book series written by George R. R. Martin and adapted on screen by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, each episode is so well directed and has so many things going on at once (and the cliff-hangers) that you will be itching to start the next episode even at 4 A.M. in the morning!

2. Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad - one of the best series of all time

It can easily be called one of the best series of all time if not the best. It is such an emotional marathon of a series that calling it a masterpiece wouldn’t be an exaggeration. Based on the life of Walter White, a simple high-school chemistry teacher turned into a drug kingpin, Breaking Bad perfectly encapsulates the importance of money, friendship, and living on the edge. It is so well-written that sometimes you feel like you are living in their world as well.

3. Dark

Dark is a German Sci-Fi series; which people are calling arguably the best Sci-Fi series of all time even though it just started airing in 2017. It is all about time travel and its paradoxes like Predestination Paradox, Bootstrap Paradox, Loopholes, Quantum entanglement, and many more. This series leaves people scratching their heads and wondering, “What is going on?” It has to be of the best written and directed series to grace our screen. The whole ensemble of the casts was spot on with their acting and the storytelling is almost God-like. Give this series a try, I bet you won’t regret it. However, let me warn you that you will need at least ten minutes at the end of each episode to figure out what just happened!

4. F.R.I.E.N.D.S

Since it is a sit-com, it will make you laugh so hard in each episode but also make sure to keep the tissue near as some scenes will literally make you cry. The entire cast of the series has done such a wonderful job that they are considered iconic still today. Over the course of its seasons, it was nominated a staggering 62 times for Primetime Emmy Awards. So, we can figure out how good the series is. It is one of those Must-Watch series out there.

Oh, it also has 10 seasons and 236 episodes, so it will keep you occupied for some time for sure.

It has been praised by both critics and audiences alike for its acting, screenplay, and directing. Many say that it was this role that sparked Benedict into stardom. If you like watching crime dramas, not many can better Sherlock.

Set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the first season focuses on the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy amid supernatural events occurring around the town, including the appearance of a girl with psychokinetic abilities. This series has some top-notch animation and wonderful acting by all the cast members. It has been especially refreshing to watch Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, grow throughout the series. If you liked Friends, I am pretty sure you will like How I Met Your Mother too. Sit-com in a similar nature like Friends, How I met your mother too draws the audience with its witty humor and tear-jerking moments. Neil Patrick Harris’s Barney has to be one of my most favorite fictional character of all time. HIMYM is a perfect balance between romance, emotion, laughter but most importantly it portrays what it means to be friends. It is one of those “feel-good” series that people will most definitely enjoy. So, I will highly urge you guys to give it a try.

8. The 100

It has to be one of the most underrated series out there. If you are like me and love to watch post-apocalyptic series, you are in for a treat. After a devastating nuclear apocalypse, the earth was uninhabitable. So, humans start living in a space station called Ark, orbiting the earth. The 100 is about 100 criminal adolescents sent to post-apocalyptic earth to see if the earth is inhabitable again or not. However, after their descent, they find out whole new surprises awaiting them on the earth’s surface. If the synopsis is this good, think how good the show will be! I will 100% recommend this series.

9. La casa de Papel / Money Heist

La casa de Papel or internationally known as Money Heist is a Spanish heist crime drama that traces two long-prepared heists led by the Professor, one on the Royal Mint of Spain, and one on the Bank of Spain. This series has exploded on the internet in recent times and for good reasons. The series has such wondorous mind-games and strategies that sometimes I felt like getting on my feet and give a round of applause.

This show has so many nail-biting moments and the performance of Tokyo and the Professor were just the icings on a perfect cake. Bella Ciao!

10. The Walking Dead

Another series set on a post-apocalyptic earth, this series revolves around man-eating zombies. The series features a large ensemble cast as survivors of a zombie apocalypse, trying to stay alive under near-constant threat of attacks from zombies, colloquially known as “walkers”. However, with the fall of humanity, these survivors also face conflict from other living survivors who have formed groups and communities with their own sets of laws and morals, often leading to hostile conflict between the human communities. It showcases perfectly how humans will act when they face extinction. It also has a lot of gore and jumpscare moments. So, it’s not for the faint-hearted but if you are fine with those, give this show a go.
