Rejoice MS Paint Fans! MS Paint Is Not Going Anywhere

The heartbreaking news of MS Paint being removed from Windows 10 Fall Creators Update was announced on July 24 through a blog post. But, after seeing the strong outpour online for the drawing software, Microsoft has now decided not to remove MS Paint completely from Windows. It will still be available for download from the Windows Store.

“Today, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support and nostalgia around MS Paint,” said Megan Sauders, general manager of 3D at Microsoft.

She also said in her blog post that it’s been amazing to see so much love for their trusty old app and wanted to share some good news—“MS Paint is here to stay, it will just have a new home soon, in the Windows Store where it will be available for free.”

The nostalgic outpouring is simply because Paint has been a big part of Windows since the very beginning. Microsoft’s last major update to Paint arrived alongside Windows 7, bringing the Ribbon interface to the simple computer graphics app.

As Paint has not yet been marked as removed in Microsoft’s support articles, this means it will act like Internet Explorer in the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. MS Paint will still be a part of Windows 10, but Microsoft will be promoting and encouraging its users to go for Paint 3D instead.

Microsoft has not actually provided a timeline for when Paint will be available in the Windows Store, but its appearance in the Store will likely trigger the removal part of Microsoft’s support for the app within Windows 10 in the future.

The 32-year-old MS Paint may be past its prime, but the dedicated following it has garnered seems to have ensured that it’s not ready to retire just yet.
