Tourism Sector Budget Over One Billion

A budget of NPR. 1.71 billion was finally approved by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) for the ongoing fiscal year 2018/19. The approval of the budget should have been sanctioned three months back, but the decision was made on 2nd of November, 2018. Tourism sector budget is over one billion; the majority of the budget has been allocated for tourism promotion, branding, and marketing purposes.

According to the chief executive officer of NTB, Deepak Raj Joshi, “The budget targets on tourism branding in China and India with the enhancement of the capacity of human resources involved in the tourism sector.” He further stated, “The tourism board will also use the digital platforms to promote the ‘Visit Nepal 2020′ campaign.”

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has said that it will frame the country-wise tourism promotion strategy and bring it into implementation. Country-wise tourism strategy would help the tourism promotion organizations to carry out promotional activities to tap potential outbound travelers of concerned countries. Currently, India, China, United States of America, United Kingdom and Sri Lanka are on the list of major source countries of tourists.

Similarly, around NPR. 373.5 million has been allocated for tourism market management and promotion, NPR. 321.5 million for public relations and publicity campaigns, NPR. 243.9 million for tourism heritage publicity and human resources development, NPR. 8 million for research, development, and monitoring and NPR. 76.6 million for development of provincial destination promotional campaigns. Tourism sector budget is over one billion with the made by NTB.

The government has set a target to bring in two million tourists each year by 2020 which is why Visit Nepal Year is going to be held in 2020.
