Startup Summit 2017 to Focus on Youth Entrepreneurship in Nepal

Nepal Government is organizing a two-day “Startup Summit 2017”, which is scheduled to be held in Kathmandu on June 7-8 and the event will be focusing on the development of youth entrepreneurship in Nepal.

Organizing a press meet in Singha Durbar on Sunday, the Ministry of Industry (MoI) said that the summit aims to bring nearly 300 aspiring entrepreneurs from across the country. As the event basically focuses on youth entrepreneurship, the event will be participated by a number of entrepreneurs from Nepal and abroad who have had a strong track record in the field of entrepreneurship as resource persons. They will share their experiences and recommend the right ecosystem for fostering youth entrepreneurship in Nepal.

The summit will be organized with the slogan “Entrepreneurship development for prosperity”, according to MoI.

Different government agencies including the Industry Ministry, the organizer of the summit, will actively participate in the event. Speaking at the press meet, Minister for Industry, Nabindra Raj Joshi said the summit will demonstrate that the government was serious about pursuing entrepreneurship through startups as an agenda of economic development and employment generation.

Joshi said that the summit will also provide policy input to the government on facilitating and sustaining startup ecosystem which is still at a nascent stage. He also said that the startup growth in the country will also help the ministry’s target to create employment opportunities for all youths within 10 years so that nobody needs to go abroad for foreign employment.

“At a time when the world is seeing the rapid growth of startups, we should not lag behind on tapping the entrepreneurship ideas of youths for economic development and creation of employment opportunities”, he added.

Minister Joshi also said that the event will bring different stakeholders for wider discussion and deliberation on opportunities, challenges and environmental aspects of the startup ecosystem in Nepal.

Also speaking at the press meet, Narottam Aryal, the coordinator of National Startup Committee, said that the government also aims to encourage domestic investment in different micro, cottage, medium and large industries through the Startup Summit 2017.
