Security Amplified for the Salinadi Fair

Salinadi Fair is a festival based on the holy Hindu scripture – Shree Swasthani Brata Katha, which started on 21st of January, 2019 (Monday). Around 90 police personnel have been prepared with security sensitivity at the recitation of Shree Swasthani at the fair on the banks of Sali River.

The Shree Swasthani Brata Katha is a popular ritual observed by the Hindus since Poush Shukla Purnima (Full Moon Day). The brata-katha concludes a month after i.e. in Magh Shukla Purnima. In Kathmandu, the festival takes place at Salinadi, a river associated with the Swasthani Brata Katha, situated in Sankhu. Devotees visit Salinadi bank near Sankhu, worship goddess Shree Swasthani, Navaraj Brahman, Goma Brahmani, Chandrawati by visiting different shrines.

The amplification of security system was initiated to avert the possible criminal and robbery activities around the fair site, the police squads along with security personnel on plain uniform have been mobilized, shared Police Inspector Laxmi Khanal at Metropolitan Police Sector, Sankhu.

Khanal further informed that there might be possible incidents of theft and robbery taking advantage of big crowds so high-security vigilance has been maintained in and around the hub. More than 30 police have been assigned to look after security on the premises of the temple in the month-long festival, he added.

A help desk equipped with security personnel has also been put in place to provide support to needy people.

Likewise, a committee coordinated by Shankharapur Municipality Mayor has been formed to monitor the pricing and quality of food items and other goods to be sold out in the fair. Mayor Subarna Shrestha stated, “Immediate action would be taken if anyone was found with selling substandard food items and other goods and charging high prices.”
