Himalayan Hydro Expo 2018 to Kick Off on January 5

Himalayan Hydro Expo 2018 is going to kick off on January 5 at the Bhrikutimandap Exhibition Hall in the capital. The three-day expo is the first of its kind. The event has been jointly organized by Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal (IPPAN) – the umbrella body of private sector developers in association with Event Management Services Pvt. Ltd. (EMSPL) under the patronage of National Planning Commission, Energy Ministry and Ministry of Environment and Population.

The Himalayan Hydro Expo 2018 is focusing on promoting hydropower development of the country. According to the president of IPPAN, Shailendra Guragain, various stakeholders who are involved in the hydropower sector of the country like developers, investors, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, banks and construction companies will be showcasing around 200 stalls during the three-day event.

Hydropower developers, equipment manufacturers and suppliers and investors from various countries such as China, India, Korea, Norway, Germany and many others will also be participating in the event.

The main attraction of the event is expected to be the participation of multinational companies like CMC Italy, VOITH-Germany, CRYSTAL-India, FLOVEL-India, VAPTECH-Bulgaria, MAVEL-Czech Republic, BFL-India, Powerchina-China and CSEC-China among other.

The Himalayan Hydro Expo 2018 will be beneficial for the expansion of the hydropower sector in our country as a significant number of huge multinational companies will be participating in the expo, according to the organizers of the event.

The first day of the expo will be dedicated to the technical sessions where different participants will be giving some live demonstrations on hydropower-related technologies and showcase hydropower-related products and services. The second day will be prioritizing business sessions with banks and insurance companies exhibiting their products related to hydropower. And on the last, i.e. the third day of the event, the organizers will host seminars and workshops on major issues regarding the hydropower sector.

According to the organizers, the event is being held at a time when the government is planning to develop projects with a total install capacity of 17000MW within seven years.

“The event will be of tremendous help to explore latest technologies and arrange funds for the development of large hydropower projects,” said Guragain. He further added that the even would create linkage between developers and other key stakeholders like product and service providers, investors and lending agencies among others.

Himalayan Hydro Expo 2018 will also feature a hydro expo competition among the hydro-related products and services developed by the students and the best innovator will be rewarded with a cash prize of NPR. 55, 555.

The second and third best innovators will receive a cash prize of NPR. 22,222 and NPR. 11,111 respectively.
