Govinda Raj Pokhrel, the CEO of the National Reconstruction Authority, launches the book, The Gorkha Earthquake-2015: A Photographic Atlas, in the Capital on Friday.

“The Gorkha Earthquake 2015: A Photographic Atlas” released

After almost two years of bearing the heavy loss of lives and properties in the devastating earthquake of 2015, a photographic book titled “The Gorkha Earthquake 2015” was finally launched in the Capital on Friday. The pictorial book has been dedicated to all the deceased and the fortunate survivors of the earthquake.

Gorkha Earthquake 2015: A Photographic Atlas attempts to describe how earthquakes occur and how the earth remains active in the time of quakes, with the help of pictures. The book provides information relating to the process of earthquake, its various phases, damages caused by the 2015 April earthquake (Gorkha quake), rescue efforts and stories of the survivors.

The 152-page book is a collaborative work of geologist Dr. Deepak Chamlagain and photographer Laxmi Prasad Nakhusi.

The book is a Photographic Atlas dwelling upon the geology of Nepal, its seismicity, scientific background of Gorkha Earthquake, damage and loss including the assistance of the government, security agencies and international organizations.

Center for Disaster and Climate Change Studies published the book with the financial and technical assistance of VSO, an international Non-Government Organization.

The authors of the book, Deepak Chamlagain, Assistant Professor at Department of Geology, Tri-Chandra Campus and Laxmi Prasad Ngakhusi, a photographer with Kantipur Media Group have decided to donate the amount collected from the book for the education of the quake surviving children.

“Documentation of the infrastructures plays a significant part in the reconstruction process. To rebuild the structure depicting the same culture and tradition, there has to be the documentation of those buildings and monuments,” said Govinda Raj Pokharel, CEO at National Reconstruction Authority during the launch of the book. He further said they needed social and economic reconstruction as well. “The physical reconstruction remains incomplete without the economic assurance.”

National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) CEO Prof. Govinda Pokhrel launched the book in a program on Friday in Lalitpur.
