Free Wi-Fi Zones and CCTV Services in Kathmandu | Kathmandu Metropolitan City

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has set up free Wi-Fi zones and CCTV services (cameras) at four different public places of the capital, Kathmandu. KMC has set up 16 CCTV cameras at four public places in Kathmandu.

Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya announced the facilities to be provided by the KMC regarding free Wi-Fi zones and CCTV services in the ward number 10 at a program held at KMC, ward number 10 on Wednesday.

The free Wi-Fi services have been started in Chhaku Paku Mandir (Baneshwor Park), Sano Gaucharan, Thapa Gaun Chowk, and Seto Ganesh Mandir (Buddhanagar). The CCTV cameras have been installed along the 1km stretch from Simrik Pool of Rudramati River to Ratna Rajya School of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Ward 10.

Speaking at the event launch, Bidya Sundar Shakya committed to expanding free Wi-Fi service throughout the capital by next two years.  Shakya said, “Apart from making our metropolis prosperous, we also need to make our city more secure and managed. We were able to nab four thieves and hit and run suspects, thanks to those cameras.” The additional security cameras will further build up public safety and help curb sexual harassment and drug-related crimes.

The chairperson of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Rajkumar KC said that the ward has already been installed with eight CCTV cameras for security purpose. KC also informed that the entire ward of Kathmandu Metropolitan City will be equipped with free Wi-Fi zones and CCTV services within a year.
