Everything You Need to Know About iPhone X: “The Future of the Smartphone”

Brace yourself for the iPhone X price and release date Apple announced on Tuesday. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus may have just been released, but all eyes are on the new iPhone X or say iPhone 10.

The iPhone X wasn’t the only smartphone announced by Apple CEO Tim Cook on September 12. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were unveiled at the Steve Jobs Theater on Apple’s new campus, too.

The iPhone X is the flagship phone you really want. It takes Apple’s ten-year-old smartphone design in a bold new direction. It also leaves behind the familiar physical home button and tried fingerprint sensor.

Though it was announced alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus which are iterative improvements over the 7/7 Plus the iPhone X is something else entirely and could potentially be the iPhone we’ve been waiting for.

Only a few months of waiting to get hold of the handset, as the iPhone X release date has been set for November 3.

Is it worth the extremely high iPhone X price? What are the big features you need to know about? We have all of your answers right here. Having said that, let’s look at the main features that are going to be in the new iPhone X.

Apple managed to make the iPhone X bigger, yet smaller at the same time. It’ll have a more expansive 5.8-inch edge-to-edge screen, but the size is actually smaller than a Plus-sized iPhone. The iPhone X dimensions give you a shorter height of 5.65 inches (143.6mm) and, importantly, a smaller width of 2.79 inches (70.9 mm). It weighs and feels lighter being 6.14 ounces.

That notorious design change has already been surpassed by the removal of the iPhone’s most iconic feature: the iPhone X has no Home button. And don’t expect to see it come back – the iPhone X is the future of iPhone design.

Apple has debuted its new ‘A11 Bionic’ chipset with the iPhone X, and it’ll have a six-core processor to power all of the latest 3D games and AR technology.

During the iPhone X launch event, Apple claimed that the performance cores are 25% faster than the ones on the iPhone 7’s A10, while the high-efficiency cores that are used for more mundane tasks are 70% faster than those on the A10.

Apple didn’t offer any information about the amount of RAM on the iPhone X, but one report has suggested the iPhone X will come with 3GB of RAM, the same as the iPhone 7 Plus, which is plenty fast.

The iPhone X is the first iPhone to come with wireless charging which is already available on the Apple Watch and rival Samsung Galaxy S8. Apple will also release a wireless charging pad, called the Airpower that will be able to charge multiple devices at once.

The battery will last two hours longer than the standard-sized iPhone 7. It’ll amount to all-day battery life, depending on usage.

What’s interesting is that the iPhone X will be the first Apple phone, along with the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus with fast-charging capabilities. This can give you a 50% charge in just 30 minutes. Previously fast charging was limited to newer iPad Pro tablets and the original 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

You will have to spring for the separately sold Lightning-to-USB-C cable and adapter. The iPhone X comes with a normal lightning cable and underpowered 5W charging adapter – smaller than even the iPad charger.

Not only does the iPhone X’s display benefit from newer OLED technology, it’s also the highest resolution iPhone screen we’ve ever seen. The 2436 x 1125 resolution (458ppi) screen will be pin sharp and the wider aspect ratio will make watching movies and TV on the go a better experience. Cramming a 5.8-inch screen in a body not that much bigger than an iPhone 7 makes the iPhone X the large screen iPhone to get if you can afford the premium price.

Apple says it has redesigned its cameras, though it sticks with much of the same specs as last year: You get 12MP cameras with every new 2017 iPhone. There are important advancements to the iPhone X’s camera. Pixels are larger and the Image Signal Processor (ISP) is much faster.

The second rear camera, which allows both optical zooms in photos and Portrait Mode, now has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). That’s the edge the iPhone X has over the dual cameras on the iPhone 8 Plus. OIS helps make up for hand shakiness.

No Home Button

Having no home button and Touch ID sensor is going to be the biggest change that longtime Apple users will have to get used to the new iPhone controls.

More of a controversy than the best feature, Apple has dropped home button, which has been present since the original iPhone and was used to control many aspects of the iPhone, including unlocking it with the embedded fingerprint scanner.

Instead, the iPhone X uses gesture controls to unlock. Several functions of the home button, such as activating Siri, will be relocated to the lock switch. Users can control the phone by swiping up from the bottom or just by tapping the screen.

Apple’s True Depth camera system lets users unlock their phone by simply looking at it. Facial recognition technology replaces Touch ID as a way to identify users through an infrared camera. Face ID will only unlock if a user’s eyes are open. Apple said there is a “one in a million” chance that someone else could unlock the iPhone using the technology.

Animoji

Animoji is a new form of moving emoji that can be customized using facial recognition software. Users can scan their face and the Animoji will match their expression in a short animation.

The feature will only be available on the premium iPhone X, as it requires the 3D camera. Apple has created a limited selection of Animoji from its hundreds of emoji, including the monkey, unicorn, robot, dog, pig, cat, dog and pile of poo.
