Clean City Campaign being held at the capital.

Clean City Campaign Begins in Kathmandu from Today

The Clean City Campaign has begun from today in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).

Newly-elected Mayor of KMC, Bidya Sundar Shakya has announced that city garbage will be collected before dawn from today as a part of the clean city campaign. This is the mayor’s first major initiative “to improve things” in the capital.

After assuming the office at Sundhara on Wednesday, the mayor and his team decided to clean the city to address the dust problem in the city that has been choking the valley for months. “Our first board meeting decided to work for controlling dust in the city,” Shakya informed the media after the meeting. “For this, we have planned a road cleaning program from tomorrow (Thursday) and it will be continued.”

The mayor himself and Deputy Mayor, Hari Prabha Khadgi jointly inaugurated the campaign amid a function in Bansbari today.

The mayor said that the campaign has been launched with the aim to making the city clean and dust-free, not just to show off. He further said that his team is committed to making a corruption-free KMC in his five-year term.

Shakya also announced to create free Wi-Fi zones at cultural, historical, religious and public places, parks and other tourist places inside the valley. The decision included the construction of public toilets after identifying space.

Likewise, they have also decided to exempt the cost of endorsing a blueprint to rebuild the houses damaged during the April 2015 earthquake.

Deputy Mayor Khadgi said he is expecting public support for these missions.

Locals, representatives from different social organizations, and officials of the metropolis were seen participating in the clean city campaign today.
