Are we expecting a brighter Kathmandu

A Brighter Kathmandu with More Street Lights and CCTV Cameras

Are we getting a brighter Kathmandu soon? The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is gearing up to install around 8,000 street lights at major road sections in the valley.

The main aim of this installation is to reduce the risk of road accidents and robberies at night time. It is also to provide safety for commuter traveling at night.

The new street lights are expected to be installed along Kalanki – Airport, Tripureshwor – Chakrapath, and Thapathali – Kamalpokhari routes.

According to Ishwor Man Dangol, the KMC Spokesperson, “The installation task will start from next month and is expected to be completed in the coming five months.”

Dangol added, “A total of 16,000 street lights have been demanded for all wards. It will cost between NPR. 100 to150 million for the project.” It is said that the Metropolis has set aside NPR. 50 million for the project.

Along with the new street lights, another plan to install CCTV cameras in the metropolis is also gearing up. The Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu is preparing for the CCTV installation project. The project also aims at peace and security. Installing CCTV cameras would reduce robberies, help manage footpath, and would aware people from polluting the environment.

Both of these projects, installing street lights and CCTV cameras are steps towards a brighter Kathmandu. We hope to see these plans would soon be implemented and we would see a positive change in our day-to-day life.
