“The Protected Tree” in Bhaktapur Won Asian Tree of the Year 2019

“The Protected Tree” in Bhaktapur, taken by Binita Karki has won the title of Asian Tree of the Year 2019.

The Asian Tree of the Year 2019 winner –  The Protected Tree was initially introduced as the first runner up in Tree of the Year Nepal 2019 which was organized by CREASION Nepal. Binita Karki was awarded the position on an Award Ceremony held at Nepal Tourism Board on March 22, 2019.

Karki said, “Given the rapid urbanization, the protected tree shows both the pain and strength of nature in the present context. I hope the competition encourages people to preserve the biodiversity heritage in the coming years.”

The story of ATOY 2019 winner – The Protected Tree by Binita Karki reads as follows:

Life cannot be found in noise and restlessness.
Nature is the friend of silence.

It amazes me when I reach to this beautiful tree far from the city at a hilltop which is living in Peace and understands my soul even without speaking a word. I often travel to this place to get rid of the city-life and encounter a friendly ambiance.

It has seen so called development and urbanization of cities which have almost devastated the essence of nature but has continued to stand still and adamant. The competition was quite tough this year as many countries including Malaysia, Singapore, India, Sri-Lanka, and more also had their own touching stories and each of the photographs had its own beauty.

At the Asian Tree of the Year 2019, the Grand Prize Winner was ‘The Protected Tree’ by Binita Karki (Nepal). Likewise, the 1st and 2nd Prize winners were ‘The Lone Ranger’ by Sahan Dissanayake and ‘The Maara Tree’ by Vidu Devinda.
