A photo exhibition titled “Nepal in 60’s” is currently being held at Pulchowk in Lalitpur. The exhibit is organized by Today’s Telegram and features a total of 200 photos taken by Dr. David Templeman, an Australian Professor from Monash University. The photos were taken during his stay in Nepal from 1967 to 1969.
Templeman, who first visited Nepal in 1967 for a retreat, traveled to various parts of the country and took more than 2000 pictures, their themes ranging from panorama to lifestyle and culture of Nepal.
In his artist’s statement, Templeman has said, “I was first in Nepal in 1967, a bus journey from England and I fell in love with it at first sight.” Templeman adds, “I was not and am not a photographer, but it seemed to me that the country took its own photographs. I claim no part of them except clicking the button… Nepal did the rest.”

Faija Parween of Today’s Telegram recalls that the exhibition was conceived after the organizers met Templeman about a year ago, and came across his rich compilation. “The pictures shown in Nepal in 60’s doesn’t just portray the natural beauty of Nepal but also of the people, lifestyle and culture of the time. We approached him to organize the exhibit so that people can go back in time and see what Nepal looked like 50 years ago,” Parween said.
She also said that the 50 percent of the total fund collected from Nepal in 60’s will be donated as a corporate social responsibility to enterprising communities in and out of the Valley. “We ourselves are a start-up, but we want to help others establish their own business”, she added.
Today’s Telegram also parallelly launched its new store at Jhamshikel. The store features products such as leather bags, sleeve bags, and eco-friendly yoga mats.
