Taking Android Phones to a Whole New Level: Samsung Galaxy Note 7

On Tuesday, August 2, Samsung unveiled its new giant, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to the world. In an special unpacking event held in New York, the Galaxy Note 7 with similar looks to that of the previous release by Samsung, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, was revealed.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 shares a lot of similarities with the Galaxy S7 Edge in its look and under-the-hood features but it has its benefits. The Galaxy Note 7 is noticeably larger with a 5.7″ screen with curved dual edge, sharper with less sloping that the S7 Edge. The Galaxy Note 7’s display is Super AMOLED with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection (the first phone with Corning’s new tech screen). Its display is the first mobile to support HDR (High Dynamic Range) for realistic images and videos.

It’s metal frame and a glass back reminisces of the S7 Edge. It is also IP68 certified, meaning it is dust-proof and water-proof.

Another exclusive feature of the Note 7 is its iris scanner and fingerprint sensor which has brought security to a whole new level. A more sensitive and accurate S stylus pen has many tricks under its body like magnification and GIF-making. It is water resistant like the phone body which means you can even writer under water. Samsung’s Note 5 has a design flaw in which the stylus gets jammed when you insert in backwards into the storage slot, which can break it permanently. But Samsung has corrected this issue with their latest offering, meaning the stylus won’t get stuck if you jam it in backwards.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Perspectives

A Snapdragon 820 or an octa-core Exynos 8890 processor with 4 GB RAM (same as the Galaxy S7 series) powers this dual sim compatible device, making it one of the most powerful smartphones available. It comes with just one storage variant of 64 GB of memory but it is expandable via a microSD card up to 256 GB.

And when it comes to camera, it features the same camera as that of Galaxy S7 series. The rear camera is of 12MP with LED Flash, dual-pixel phase detection auto-focus (PDAF), Smart OIS, and f/1.7 aperture. The front-facing camera is of 5MP. The camera can take excellent photos even in low light.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes with USB Type C and supports On The Go (OTG) and quick charging technology and wireless charging technology. This is the first ever phone from Samsung that incorporates this technology. The phone comes with 3,500 mAh non-removable battery.

The Galaxy Note 7 comes natively with Android 6.0.1 and should receive the new Android, Nougat, sometime soon. At the moment, it is price-tagged as $849.99 in the US and will come in Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium, Black Onyx and Blue Coral. It is now available for pre-order now. In Nepal, it has not been officially announced but it will be available globally from August 19. Looking at past trends, it will most probably be available a week after the global launch. We’ll definitely keep you updated with the release status and news of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in Nepal.

Overall, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is almost identical hardware twin to Galaxy S7 series in terms of performance, camera, display and build which is not a bad thing at all because the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are two of the year’s best phones. If you’re an existing S7 or the Galaxy Note 5 user, you’ll feel as motivated to get this model unless you want to enjoy the bigger display and iris scanner features. But if you’re a power user, Note 7 targets people who want the phone with the most goods, and the Note’s gliding stylus and extra writing, drawing and navigation tools give it all the things. Also, if you’re using older generation of Samsung phones or android smartphones, it is definitely a worthy upgrade.
