Nepali Version of Mahatma Gandhi’s Autobiography Released

Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated on Monday, at Nepal-Bharat Library located in the capital, Kathmandu. On this special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Nepali version of Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography The Story of My Experiments with Truth was released.

Former Prime Minister, Lokendra Bahadur Chand, renowned Gandhian Pradeep Giri, and Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri jointly launched the Nepali version of Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography “The Story of My Experience with Truth.”

The book was translated by Shri Shekhar Giri and was published by Shivalik Prakashan. The release program was organized by the Embassy of India and BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation. More than 150 Nepali writers, artists, intellectuals, and media persons were seen attending the program.

The former Prime Minister of Nepal, Chand displayed the portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom struggle of India and Gandhi’s grant in the world peace. He called Mahatma Gandhi an icon of world peace.

Lawmaker and renowned Gandhian Pradeep Giri stressed on how the principles of ‘ahimsa’ (non-violence) had the power to bring balance in administration and society of a nation.

Ambassador Puri spoke about the applicability of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings also to modern day world. He commended Vice President of Nepal-India Friendship Association, Shekhar Giri for his “immense labor” for the translation of the iconic autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi, the statement read.

Some rare photographs of Mahatma Gandhi were also exhibited during the program. A documentary on the life of Mahatma Gandhi was also screened on this occasion. The members of Kalaguthi and students of famous Gandhian of Nepal late Tulasi Mehar demonstrated the process of producing fabrics of ‘Charkha’.

Dedicated follower of Mahatma Gandhi, Smt. Uma Jee sang the famous Bhajan of Mahatma Gandhi “Vaishnava jan to tene kahiye jo peer parai jane re” on the special occasion.
