Kathmandu Metro – A New Nepali App Launched

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched a new app called “Kathmandu Metro”. It is an app that aims to promote the transparency of the information through the use of information technology and getting closer to the Kathmandu citizens.

The KMC Mayor, Mr. Bidya Sundar Shakya launched the app during a program held on Monday.  KMC has also developed a system of group SMS service. With this service, an information can be sent to 17,443 mobile phones at one time; a great way to reach a lot of people in lesser time.

With the newly launched app, Kathmandu Metro, all the Kathmandu residents who use mobile phones installed with this technology can access information on all the activities of the KMC.

Mayor Bidya Sundhar Shakya hopes that the app will play a significant role in disseminating the development works carried out by the metropolis to the people quickly and realistically. During the app launch, Mr. Shakya said, “Kathmandu residents can now know about the facilities and services provided by the metropolis, its authority, responsibility and activities with the help of the app on their smartphones sitting at their homes.”

Speaking on the occasion, Hari Prabha Khadgi (Shrestha), Deputy Mayor expressed the need of promoting the use of information technology for reaching all the information to the people.

Likewise, Mr. Dhaniram Poudel, KMC Executive Officer said that the metropolitan city was behind in terms of the use of IT and had to do much in this sector, and the launching of the apps was only the beginning.

Hearing what Mr. Poudel said, all the Kathmandu residents have now high hopes from the KMC that they will bring more technical facilities for everyone.

For now, the app is only available on Android (4.1 or more). IOS and other software users need to wait a little while to get the Kathmandu Metro app.
