Subisu CAN InfoTech 2017 Concludes Today With Over 300,000 in Attendance

The six-day long Subisu CAN InfoTech 2017 has ended in the capital today.

CAN InfoTech, a well-known exhibition of information technology products and services, has emerged as a pre-eminent platform for tech enthusiasts.  From sellers to buyers, it has become a common destination for tech-savvy people. For businesses, in particular, the expo has become a good opportunity to market and test their products.

Bishworam Balami, the general secretary of CAN Federation, said, “The exhibition this year received quality visitors like leaders of different political parties, policymakers and students, among other stakeholders of the industry, who have a keen interest in the ICT industry of Nepal. We believe that CAN InfoTech will contribute in increasing the access of people to information and technology and make the government aware of the need to make more relevant ICT policies.” The exhibition was visited by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Minister of Population and Environment, Jayadev Joshi, Minister of Industry, Nabindra Raj Joshi, former Prime Minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal and Nepali Congress leader, Udaya Shumsher Rana, among other leaders, popular artists and sportsmen.

He added that the visits by different senior political leaders and their commitment to enhance ICT industry has encouraged entrepreneurs working in the ICT sector of the country.

According to Balami, various technologies that domestic companies showcased and introduced during the CAN InfoTech will contribute to the development, expansion and promotion of ICT in Nepal.

He said that ICT products like printers, projectors, scanners, attendance machines, routers, CCTVs, batteries, solar equipment, UPS, induction stoves, laptops, Android smart TVs, smartphones and tablets, anti-virus and internet security solutions, power banks, memory cards, pen drives, wifi equipped cameras, drones, smartwatches, selfie sticks, among others were the major attractions in the exhibition.

“Comparatively, visitors thronged the mobile phone stalls at the event,” according to him.

According to CAN Federation, more than 11 mobile phone brands, including Huawei, Oppo, Lenovo and Micromax, had launched different models of mobile phones during the CAN InfoTech.

Similarly, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Subisu, Web Surfer and Vianet had provided special offers to customers during the exhibition on broadband internet and digital TVs. Likewise, Subisu had launched its HD channels through the exhibition.

People from all walks of life participated in the tech expo. As many as 310, 098 people attended the 23rd edition of this exhibition, according to the officials of CAN Federation. However, CAN InfoTech 2017 slightly underperformed when compared to the last year’s event. Last year the number of visitors was 363,000. And this year, the organizers had expected a footfall of 400,000 people.

According to the organizers, 158 domestic IT companies had participated in CAN InfoTech 2017.
