CAN Info-Tech is the largest and leading information technology/entertainment show and conference of Nepal. This year, it will be held from January 29th to February 3rd at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall in Kathmandu. Every year this event, organized by Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), draws hundreds of tech-savvy individuals from all over the country. The main aim of CAN InfoTech is to feature the latest and upcoming buzz in information technology. CAN Info-Tech is also famous for showcasing a number of attractions such as various gadget outlets, huge discounts on popular electronics and addressing some crucial matters in the field  of IT.

Subisu Cable Internet Pvt. Ltd. is the title sponsor for the 22nd edition of CAN Info-Tech with Huawei as the associate sponsor. Therefore, this edition of CAN Info-Tech has been named “Subisu CAN Info-Tech 2016, in association with Huawei”. Likewise, Platinum Sponsor – Vianet Communications Pvt. In a press conference and exhibitor’s briefing program held last Thursday (21st Jan), Mr. Bishworam Balami, General Secretary of CAN Federation, said that the expo will feature a total of 175 stalls – 49 stalls inside the main hall, three branding pavilions outside, 104 stalls in the truss, 14 stalls in the open area, and 5 food stalls. He stated, “All the stalls in the main hall have already been booked. Similarly, more than 90 percent of the stalls under the truss have been booked.”

The expo will feature ICT hardware-software sales, maintenance firms, power solutions, mobile and accessories, dealers & distributions, internet service providers, telecommunications, Information Communications Technology (ICT) colleges and training institutions, software solutions and dealers. This year the exhibitors and sponsors will be coming up with discount packages and enticing offers & schemes.

CAN Federation will live video stream the event for the very first time. Binod Dhakal, president of CAN Federation, said that people can enjoy live video streaming of the event by visiting www.can.org.np or www.caninfotech.org.np .

Students will be given a 50% discount on the ticket.

The Federation has fixed entry fee at Rs. 100 for general visitors and Rs. 50 for students with valid student cards. However, the last day of the event has been declared as ‘business day’ and CAN will not issue student entry tickets. So, everyone will have to pay Rs. 100 to get in. People can also buy tickets at www.can.org.np , or www.caninfotech.org.np and get a 20% discount.

SMS to get details of the products of the event

Details about the products and services that will be shown in the event can be acquired through SMS. For that, you have to type CAN<space><name of the product or brand or service> and send it to 5001. Also, throughout the whole event, there will be a lucky draw at the end of the day. To enter the lucky draw, type CAN<space><ticket number> and send it to 5001.

Around 400,000 people are expected to visit the event, according to CAN Federation. The event will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Nepal, K.P. Sharma Oli.

A side event will also be held during CAN Info-Tech 2016. This is the 15th edition of the ICT Conference, , scheduled to be held on the 1st and 2nd of February

The 15th edition of ICT Conference named “Subisu CAN ICT Conference 2016” will also be held on February 1st & 2nd in Hotel Everest, New Baneshwor with the theme “Information Technology for Development (ICT4D) and Social Transformation”. This conference attempts to review the role of Information and Technology and Communication Technologies in social, economic and political development from the Nepali viewpoint. Professor Suvash Bhattarcharya of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, will deliver a keynote. Day one of the conference will see discussions on “Emerging Technology for ICT4D/Public Delivery and Government Transformation” and on “Knowledge based Industry and Employment and Professional Skill Development for ICT4D” in day two.
