Webometrics, also known as Ranking Web of Universities had ranked TU 4,241th in 2015 and 3,895th in 2017. The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is a ranking system for the world’s universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the web contents (number of web pages and files) and the visibility and impact of these web publications.

The World University Rankings (WUR) was conducted by Times Higher Education, United Kingdom.

The WUR is the world’s largest university ranking agency which publishes the lists of top 10 and top 100 universities in the world. The ranking process is done on five major groups: teaching weight, research weight, citation influence, international outlook, and industrial income.

Tirtha Raj Khaniya, Vice-counsellor of TU had participated in the world university ranking programme organized in Singapore from September 25th to 27th. This was the first time TU applied for the ranking. He stated, “The criteria for selection are so tough that many universities don’t even get through the selection process. We met the criteria. This is an achievement for us.”

According to Executive Director at Planning Directorate of Tribhuvan University Hridish Kumar Pokhrel, TU had scored 30 percent in the first three groups but scored only 5.7 percent in international outlook and 2.5 in the industrial outcome. He stated, “It seems we can upgrade our ranking by forging collaboration with foreign universities and attracting international students.”

Tirtha Raj Khaniya also stated, “We had been underestimating our teaching methods and overall results. With this upgraded ranking, we are excited that research conducted by our scholars will also gain international recognition.”
